Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

Ugh!  Laptop is entirely dead.  It seems to be that the adapter port isn't functioning properly because the power adapter is functioning but doesn't do anything when connected.  Has anyone else had this problem?

So frustrating because it is only a little over a year old.  I won't be buying an HP again!

Is this one of the newer laptops that charge through a USB-C port or does it have a dedicated jack for charging?

If the dedicated charging port is damaged and is of modular design, it can easily be replaced.

Model or product ID of HP system?

Hi!  It is model 15-fd0095wm so a dedicated jack.  I checked and the adapter is working but when it (and another I made sure was working) is connected, the light next to the jack does not come on.  Since I didn't realize it wasn't charging, the battery must have run down completely.

I'll have to take it somewhere to find out what the cost of replacing it will be . . . and hope that is the only issue.

Are these types of problems common?  I don't need a laptop that does much (not gaming or streaming, etc.) but want one that will last but is also affordable.

Thanks!

Hi @Ann202705,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern and don’t worry let me help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • When you connect the adapter, do you hear or feel any slight “click” or snug fit in the port?
  • Have you noticed any wobbling or looseness in the charging jack itself?
  • Did the charging light ever come on intermittently before, or has it stopped altogether?

Here are a few quick troubleshooting steps you can try before taking it in:

  1. Check the outlet and adapter connection — plug the adapter into a different wall socket to rule out power supply issues.
  2. Inspect the port and adapter tip — look for dust, bent pins, or debris inside the charging port that might block contact.
  3. Perform a hard reset — disconnect the adapter, then hold down the power button for about 15 seconds. Reconnect and try charging again.
  4. Test with another compatible adapter — you mentioned you tried another one, which is great. If both don’t trigger the charging light, it does point toward the port or internal charging circuit.
  5. UEFI Testing : turn off the computer, connect the charger, and turn it on while tapping Esc to enter the startup menu, then press F2 for diagnostics. Select Component Tests, then Power, and finally AC Adapter to run the test

I hope this helps.

Thanks but I've already gone through HP with many of these steps and others that require attempting to reset or force a start; however, the laptop has no power and is not getting any power even through a working adapter.  From what I can tell, it is a hardware issue not supported by HP.  What I cannot tell is if how widespread quality issues are but it is definitely not what I expected from HP based on prior experience.

Thank you for the offer but I've already been told at this point the resolution, including cost, is on me.  If there are widespread quality issues, it likely isn't worth it for me to put more money into something that will have more problems soon.  (Of course, I realize it won't last forever but I've not had a laptop fail so completely so quickly.)

Hello again @Ann202705

I looked up your system and your laptop has a modular DC power input connector, part# N36075-001, that can easily be replaced.

I am assuming that the problem is a damaged connector or loose internal cable connection. This is just a guess

Connect the power to the  laptop and wiggle the connection and see if the LED momentarily lights up. If so, then you just need to open the loptop and replace that internal cable.

You could also look for debris in the connector with a good light and a magnifier.

Here is (possibly) information for the closest repair center.

Unfortunately it ended up being the motherboard.  Definitely not worth putting more money into something of such poor quality.  Won't be buying HP again!
