Hello @mmc94,

The HP ENVY x360 - 15m-cn0012dx does in fact permit an HDD + SSD configuration.

From your computer's Specifications page, I understand that a PCIe NVMe SSD is already inside. Therefore, you can insert an HDD with the additional purchase of a bracket and connector:

Hard Drive Cable: L20103-001

Hard Drive Rubber Sleeve: L21894-001

You can then use the HP Spare part number(s) in the HP Parts store hereYou may also be able to find it elsewhere on the Internet.

Unfortunately, I believe these parts are very new and may not be currently available.

Steps to installation of the HDD are located on pages 30-31 of your computer's Maintenance and Service Guide. Any 2.5" drive will work.

Best regards,

Eddy

The caddy and cable are not available yet so I bought parts for previous model x360s and they worked. They were:

HP PAVILION X360 11-K117CL HARDDRIVE CADDY B306

and

HP Envy X360 15-BP 15M-BP 15-BP102TX 15-BP103TX Hard Drive Cable HDD Connector

I would recommend trying to find a similar cable that is a bit longer, however. It took a little bit of finesse to make it work. But it does work well.

Do you know long does it typically take for them to have the parts available after releasing the models?

Nope. So you have two options: wait... or buy the parts I listed above with the aforementioned warnings.

Hi Djeplett,

First of all, thank you for your info and efforts. I have been attempting to upgrade this notebook since getting it about 4 months ago and it has been somewhat painful to say the least. I was very excited about the 2700u Ryzen with vega10, but with HP's horrendous graphics driver update frequency (basically once since launch) the laptop is still on driver version 17.7 while AMD is up to 18.12 on their website and pointing the finger at HP saying they are responsible for official optimized laptop updates. I have done the force install graphics driver, but then I lose all brightness control on my screen which sucks so i just rolled back to 17.7. This unfortunately takes a huge hit on performance as the newer drivers are greatly optimized for vega. HP's lack of updates has been a HUGE letdown! Oh well, vent over, live and learn i guess. Now on to my actual questions.

I'm in the same situation as the original poster trying to upgrade storage with a NVME SSD in place and have spoken with HP as well as their external parts vendors. The only place i've found the official cable is this online asian distributor that typically sells printer parts. THe ridiculousness of it is that the price is $164.99 for the cable and foil alone!

Can't even get the HDD rubber:

Anyway, i'm thinking of going the same direction you did. Do you happen to have the same model number as the original poster? My model number is 15m-cp0012dx. I noticed that the service manual is the same for the 15 series lappys so i figured the layout is extremely similar inside with regards to drive clearance and cable lengths.

Also, i noticed that this is sata cable is a 12 led ZIF connector but some of the ZIF connectors are missing the fifth lead when counting from the exposed lead side from left to right.

I was curious if this cable will still work as I've also seen some 12 lead ZIF connectors for the M6 model series as the one below.

Any help is appreciated! I've already upgraded the NVME SSD and DDR4 (to kingston HyperX 2400 CL-14), but wanted to go forward with a SATA SSD or Hybrid drive for backups and mass storage. Thinking about upgrading the wireless card to an AC 9260 also for the BT 5.0, 1.73Gbps those speed, and those congested wifi environments! I'll let you know how it goes.

I purchased the exact cable to was suggested from eBay.  I think I paid 15 dollarsfor it.  I used a Kingston SSD drive and hard drive rubber from my old laptop and it is working perfectly.

Awesome! Would you mind forwarding the link to the eBay cable you bought? Pretty please?!:Halo:

Unfortunately eBay won't let me go back that far to get a link.  But if you search for the part number you should find it.

Hey there, I just wanted to ask if you know the cable you bought as a missing 5th pin as one of the above poster mentioned. I just bought one from ebay

New HP Envy X360 15-BP 15M-BP 15-BQ 15-BQ175NR HDD Cable & Caddy & Rubber Rail

I have the same model laptop 15m 12dx

When i plug in the ssd with this cable, the laptop doesnt turn on, the power button just blinks once

I tried removing the original HD from the M.2? Slot and only having the new SSD to see if that was the problem but the laptop still wont turn on, just blinking once.

Thanks!
