I'm sorry I don't know, I didn't look at it that closely.  Since I am on my computer, I was able to pull up what I purchased, could not do that from my phone the other day.

So I looked up the part number:

They all look like they're missing the fifth lead connector. You sure we all have the same models? Or better yet, if the drive correctly flashed. You might also need to disable secure boot first to get ir to work. I havent ordered a cable yet as I got my NVME SSD working for now, but I will be expanding storage soon. I'm still pissed with HPs lack of 2700u Vega drivee updates though. I can't keep the catalyst control center working without locking up the processor. **bleep**ty for a laptop with a built in AGP.

My laptop's model number is 15m-cn0012dx. So exactly the same as the original poster, I just disabled legacy boot and secure boot before turning off and removing the battery to install the ssd. Reattached the battery and still acts the same way, the power button just blinks once and fails to start. I think the connector i bought is also the same as the one the original poster bought

Starting to get a little frustating ~~

Samsung evo 860, 500g if that matters

@ThatSleepyDoc:

Sorry it took me a while to respond to your questions, but since so many were going back and forth I figured I'd let the dust settle for a bit.

I did have the exact same model number laptop. I did not change anything in BIOS that I can remember, but I did remove the battery and hit the power button to make sure all caps were discharged before I opened the case up. As I said, the cable I bought was the one you have the link to and it was about as long as in the picture. I did see other cables for sale on eBay and Amazon that appeared longer in their pics. I would still recommend getting one of those as I had to *carefully* finesse the cable to route to the new SSD drive. I bought a Sandisk 1Gb drive. I don't remember the model number on the box, but the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver states it is an SDSSDH31024G. I think just about any rubber sleeve for these x360s will work as it's rubber so you can jam it in pretty easily. The one I bought fit the drive pretty well and seemed to go in the case pretty easily.

@Shukaiwen:

Are you SURE you carefully bent the cable and CAREFULLY seated it in the ZIF? If you bent the cable too sharply I could see a trace getting damaged easily. Or if it's slightly cocked in the ZIF I could see a pin or two not making enough contact or (worse yet) a couple pins shorting. This is definitely an operation requiring patience and finesse. If it hasn't booted for you yet I would try what ThatSleepyDoc suggested and if it still hangs I think you should open the case back up and remove the cable & drive & see if it boots then. If it does, you have a bad cable or drive. If it still doesn't, you may have damaged the board. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for the replies Djeplett,

When I first installed the ribbon cable, I did not bend it. I left the laptop back cover off to make sure everything works before i put the laptop back together. After installing the ribbon and drive, the laptop wouldnt turn on following all the above mentioned steps whether it is draining all the power / removing battery and modifying bios.

Once i removed the ribbon cable, removing the battery and placing it back in again, the laptop would turn on and boot normally.

Not sure what to think of this yet. The drive itself works since i plugged it in via usb / sata cable

Thanks

You have those part numbers flipped.  The part number for the caddy is actually for the cable, and vice versa.  😉

@Shukaiwen

I would try another cable. Could be a problem there. Check the ZIF socket with a magnifying glass to make sure there isn't anything there causing a short, too. You never know with a bug like this.

Good news is the laptop still functions and nothing got fried that's needed to boot.

Good luck.

Just received the cable mentioned from ebay and BAM, it works! After installing a second 512GB SSD, reboot the computer, then go into hard drive management and activate the new hard drive. That's it!
