my laptop was running slow, so I went onto HP support and there was a bios upgrade. I did the bios upgrade and now my laptop turns on but the screen is black, ugh!
my laptop is too old for support, so I'm hoping that someone can walk me through what to do as I need this working! Thank you in advance

we are up and running! thank you again for your patience and help! I'm doing a restore point now! would you recommend anything else that I do since it's good right now! just so that you know, I put in the USB flash drive and it wouldn't boot from windows & B Key (I tried twice)... so I tried windows & V key and it brought up the screen saying that my bios had been recovered! it then finished and it works... very strange but I'm thankful... hopefully this helps others!

Sorry this took so long to reply, the HP site wasn't allowing me to reply to the post, so I figured a work around and changed my password and now I'm in here again! Thank you for your suggestion. I tried this 4 times as instructed and still a black screen. I can hear the fan running so I know that the laptop is ON. What other suggestions would you have?

Hello @BigWaveDerek
(1) Double check with external monitor connected via vga/hdmi cable. Can you see the boot screen/Windows on the external monitor?
- Shutdown notebook
- Power off external monitor
- Connect vga/hdmi cable
- Power on external monitor
- Power on notebook

Nothing 😞 I tried all different combos too. I know the HMDI cable is working as I unplugged it from another working laptop and screen!... I tried unplugging the power supply and plugging back in a few times and I tried unplugging the HMDI with power supply and on battery power... Nada... I had no idea that a bios upgrade could do this... any other ideas?

Hello @BigWaveDerek
Reasonable recommendation and solution
Take out hard drive and memory and buy a another good used or new notebook.
Kind regards

translated to my brain... the bios upgrade toasted the motherboard? the HDD should be fine and other components... so hypothetically, IF I was to purchase the same unit used, without memory and HDD, I should be able to put those in and have the laptop boot up and work fine?

No, the Bios update did not work/finish properly -> now it is Corrupted and initial boot sequence is not possible.
Message to @BigWaveDerek's brain: Yes
