My HP laptop has a battery problem. HP Battery Check shows the primary battery status as weak, battery life shorter due to aging. It shows 100% when plugged in, but shuts down immediately when unplugged. Works normally while connected. HP check recommends contacting HP, says battery may be covered under warranty

Hi @nandini17
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for sharing the details. I understand your HP 15-fd0000 laptop is showing a Weak battery status in HP Battery Check, reaches 100% charge while plugged in, but powers off immediately when the AC adapter is disconnected.
Based on the behavior you described and the HP Battery Check result, the battery is no longer holding a usable charge. Let's try the following recommended checks:
- With the AC adapter connected, press F2 repeatedly during startup to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Run Battery Test and note the result code, if one is displayed.
- In Windows, open HP Support Assistant and check for any available BIOS and firmware updates.
- After updates are completed, restart the notebook and test whether it remains powered on after disconnecting the charger.
- If the battery status continues to show Weak and the notebook turns off immediately when unplugged, the battery has likely reached the end of its service life and may require replacement.
Since HP Battery Check indicates the battery may be covered under warranty, please share:
- The battery test result or failure ID from HP Diagnostics (if available)
- Whether the laptop is currently within its warranty period
This information will help us guide you further and determine the available battery service options.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
