Hi @jashansandhu,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're thrilled to have you on board!

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please share the model name of your device?

Now, let's dive into the issue! Could you please elaborate on what's happening with your device? The more details you provide, the better we'll understand the problem and the faster we can resolve it!

Meanwhile, Identify the Issue Type

  1. Check if the laptop does not charge at all, charges slowly, or drains quickly.
  2. Look for any battery warning message on screen.
  3. Note if the laptop shuts down suddenly when unplugged.
  4. Observe if the battery percentage is stuck or not updating.
  5. Keep this behavior in mind for the steps below.

Check Power Adapter and Cable

  1. Ensure you are using the original charger.
  2. Inspect the cable for cuts, bends, or loose connections.
  3. Plug the charger directly into a wall outlet (avoid extension boards).
  4. Check if the charging light on the laptop turns on.
  5. Try a different compatible charger if available.

Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn off the laptop completely.
  2. Disconnect the charger.
  3. If removable, take out the battery.
  4. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  5. Reconnect the battery and charger, then turn it on.

Check Battery Health (Windows)

  1. Press Windows + X and select Terminal or Command Prompt.
  2. Type: powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
  3. Open the generated report file.
  4. Check “Design Capacity” vs “Full Charge Capacity.”
  5. A large drop indicates battery wear.

Update Drivers and BIOS

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand “Batteries.”
  3. Right-click “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.”
  4. Select “Uninstall device,” then restart the laptop.
  5. Check for BIOS updates from your laptop manufacturer.

Check Charging Port

  1. Inspect the charging port for dust or looseness.
  2. Ensure the connector fits firmly.
  3. Avoid wiggling the cable while charging.
  4. Clean gently if needed using dry air.
  5. Try charging again.

Note:
Laptop batteries degrade over time. If the battery health is significantly reduced, replacement may be required.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,

I'm an HP Employee.
