Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

Good evening to the entire community, I need help with a problem with my PC 15s-fq5083nl. When it reaches 100% charge, it stays at 100% for about ten minutes and then drops directly to 94%. I have updated the BIOS, calibrated the battery by fully discharging and then recharging it, and have removed the battery drivers, but nothing worked. Thank you to everyone who will respond.

Hi @srv76,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Does the battery percentage drop only when the laptop is plugged in, or also when running on battery power?
  • Have you noticed any unusual heating or performance issues around the time the drop occurs?
  • Roughly how old is the device, and has the battery been replaced before?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics: Restart your PC and press F2 to access HP PC Hardware Diagnostics. Run the battery test to check the health status.
  2. Check Windows Power Settings: Go to Control Panel → Power Options and ensure you’re using the recommended or balanced plan. Sometimes aggressive power-saving settings can cause odd battery readings.
  3. Update HP Support Assistant: Make sure HP Support Assistant is installed and updated. It can automatically check for firmware and driver updates related to battery management.
  4. Perform a Hard Reset: Shut down the laptop, disconnect the charger, and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Then reconnect and power on. This can sometimes clear residual charge states.

I hope this helps.

Hi Deep_World, thanks for your reply. The battery goes from 100% to 94% whether plugged in or running on battery power. I haven't noticed any overheating issues or unusual performance when the drop occurs. The device is a year and 4 months old, and the battery has never been replaced. I ran the diagnostics using HP Hardware Diagnostics, and the battery status is fine. The power options are set to Balanced. HP Support Assistant is installed and up to date. I tried holding the power button for 15 seconds as you suggested, but it didn't work. My PC stays at 100% for about ten minutes, then goes straight to 94%. I don't know if it's a battery issue or if I need to send the PC in for repair. Sorry for not answering you right away, I did all the tests you asked me and fully reloaded the PC to see if the problem was solved

Hi @srv76,

Thank you for your reponse and I really appreciate the detailed steps you’ve already taken it shows how thorough you’ve been in trying to resolve this.

I understand how it must feel to see your battery drop from 100% to 94% so quickly, especially when diagnostics report that everything is fine.

Let’s try a few additional checks together before considering repair:

  • Battery Calibration: Sometimes the battery percentage reading can be slightly inaccurate. Try fully charging the battery to 100%, then let it discharge completely until the laptop shuts down. Recharge it back to 100% without interruption. This can help recalibrate the battery sensor.
  • BIOS Update: Outdated BIOS firmware can cause battery reporting issues. Please check HP Support Assistant or the HP website for the latest BIOS update for your model.
  • Battery Report: Run a detailed battery report by opening Command Prompt and typing:
  • This will generate a report (usually saved in your user folder) that shows battery health, capacity, and charge cycles. It may reveal if the battery is losing capacity.
  • Check for Fast Startup: In Windows, Fast Startup can sometimes cause odd battery behavior. You can disable it by going to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable and unchecking Turn on fast startup.
  • Test with Different Power Adapter: If possible, try charging with another compatible HP adapter to rule out power supply inconsistencies.

If after these steps the issue persists, it may be a sign of natural battery wear.

Hi Deep_World, thanks for your reply. Before asking for help on this community, I contacted phone support and WhatsApp support, who had me perform all the BIOS updates and calibrate the battery by charging and discharging it completely. Nothing was fixed, and fast boot is disabled. I ran a detailed battery report via command prompt, but I can't read it. I've been having this problem since December. I also contacted phone support, but no one can give me an answer. Best regards, and thanks again.
