What is the best way to thoroughly clean keyboard splattered with water? I turned my laptop upside down overnight. Thank you.

Hi @sf1109, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the Liquid spill on the Keyboard!

Thanks for sharing your model. Since your HP Pavilion x360 14-ek1000 got splashed with water, and you've already turned it upside down overnight (which is a great first step), here's how to thoroughly and safely clean the keyboard and minimise any risk of damage:

1. Power Off and Disconnect

  • Immediately shut down the laptop if it’s still on.
  • Unplug the power adapter and remove any connected devices (USBs, headphones, etc.).
  • If possible, do not turn it back on until it’s fully dry.

2. Drain and Dry

  • Keep the laptop upside down in an inverted “V” shape (like a tent) to allow water to drain.
  • Place it on a dry towel in a warm, ventilated area.
  • Leave it like this for at least 24–48 hours.

3. Use Absorbent Materials

  • Gently dab the keyboard with a lint-free cloth or paper towel to absorb surface moisture.
  • Avoid pressing keys too hard.

4. Use Isopropyl Alcohol (Optional)

  • If you suspect sticky residue (like from tea or soda), use 90%+ isopropyl alcohol on a microfiber cloth.
  • Lightly wipe the keycaps and surrounding areas.
  • Do not pour alcohol directly on the keyboard.

5. Use Compressed Air

  • After drying, use a can of compressed air to blow out any remaining moisture or debris under the keys.

6. Test Carefully

  • Once you’re confident it’s dry, power it on and test the keyboard.
  • If some keys don’t work, you may need a keyboard replacement or internal cleaning by HP support.
