Hi @Gautam39

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with both Shift keys not working on your HP Pavilion laptop. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the problem.

1. Check for Sticky Keys

Sometimes, the Sticky Keys feature in Windows can cause certain keys to behave incorrectly.

Solution:

  1. Press Shift five times to see if the Sticky Keys menu pops up.
  2. If the Sticky Keys feature is enabled, a pop-up will appear. Uncheck the option to enable Sticky Keys.
  3. Alternatively, you can go to Settings:
    • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
    • Go to Ease of Access > Keyboard.
    • Under Use Sticky Keys, make sure the option is turned off.

2. Test with an External Keyboard

If you have an external keyboard, plug it into your laptop to check if the Shift key works there.

  • If the Shift key works on an external keyboard, it's likely a hardware issue with the built-in keyboard of your laptop.

3. Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers

Sometimes outdated or corrupted drivers can cause certain keys to stop working.

Solution:

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Keyboards section, right-click on the Standard PS/2 Keyboard, and select Update driver.
  3. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
  4. If an update is found, install it, and restart your laptop.
  5. If updating the driver doesn't work, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard driver:
    • Right-click on the keyboard in Device Manager and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart the laptop, and Windows will automatically reinstall the keyboard drivers.

4. Check for Hardware Issues

It's possible that there may be a physical issue with the Shift keys on your keyboard, such as dirt or debris blocking the keys.

Solution:

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Gently clean around the Shift keys using compressed air or a soft brush to remove any dirt or debris.
  3. If you're comfortable doing so, you could also carefully remove the keycaps and clean underneath them. Be cautious when doing this to avoid damaging the keyboard.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
