broken hinge and lid on 2 year old chromebook

The left side hinge appears to have seized up and ripped itself out of the plastic lid.

Chromebook is only just over 2 years old. Only ever used for light domestic duties, never dropped and now it is useless.

Expected more from a $700 device.

I see that the warranty for your device has expired, so unfortunately, there's not much we can do from our end. You'll need to visit an authorized service center to get it fixed.

and how much is that likely to cost?

And are the replacement parts improved, or should I budget for this repair every two years or so?
