Hi @S_m5

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It looks like you're experiencing two issues with your HP laptop:

  1. Keyboard Backlight: The keyboard backlight cannot be deactivated.
  2. Camera Not Detected: You're seeing the error message "No camera is attached" or a similar error when trying to use the camera.

Additionally, you’ve mentioned that you’re locked out of the BIOS because it's password protected, which prevents you from making any changes related to both of these issues.

Steps to Resolve the Issues

1. Deactivating the Keyboard Backlight

HP laptops generally have a function key combination to control the keyboard backlight. The key combination might be Fn + F3 or Fn + F4 (depending on the model). However, if these shortcuts are not working, or the keyboard backlight is stuck on, you can try the following:

Option 1: Turn Off Keyboard Backlight Using Function Keys

  1. Try Pressing Fn + F3 or F4: These keys often control keyboard brightness, including turning the backlight on/off or adjusting brightness levels. Look for the keyboard backlight icon (usually a small light symbol or sun icon) on the F3 or F4 keys.

Option 2: Use HP Quick Launch Buttons (if available)

  1. HP Quick Launch is software that can sometimes provide control over keyboard and light settings.
    • Check if HP Quick Launch or similar software is installed on your laptop. You can try adjusting the keyboard light settings through the application.

Option 3: BIOS Settings (if you can access BIOS later)

  • Once you're able to reset or unlock your BIOS, you may be able to find an option related to the keyboard backlight in the Advanced or System Configuration section, where you can turn it off.

2. Camera Not Detected Error (No Camera Attached)

The "No camera attached" error could happen due to a few reasons: driver issues, BIOS settings, or hardware failure. Let's troubleshoot this step-by-step:

Option 1: Check Device Manager for the Camera

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Under Imaging Devices, look for your webcam. If it’s listed, try right-clicking on it and selecting Enable if it's disabled.
  3. If the camera is listed with a yellow triangle (indicating a driver issue), right-click and select Update Driver.
    • Select Search automatically for updated driver software to check for updates.
    • Alternatively, you can go to the HP website and download the latest webcam driver for your specific laptop model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
