Hi @feyazi

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

Error code 0xA00F4244 <NoCamerasAreAttached> indicates that Windows operating system cannot physically detect any camera hardware connected to your system.

Even when software permissions and app settings are enabled in Windows, the Camera app and Device Manager will fail to show the device if the webcam is physically disconnected at the hardware level, disabled by a hardware switch/key state, or experiencing a temporary memory bus deadlock. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Verify Physical Camera Presence

  • Inspect the display bezel: Visually verify there is an actual camera lens in the top-center above your monitor screen. Some HP PC configurations lack a camera and feature a plastic plug or small microphone/sensor holes in its place.
  • Check product specifications: Verify if your specific HP model includes a built-in webcam by checking your product specifications on HP Customer Support.

Verify Hardware Privacy Switch, Shutter LED, and Physical Cover

  • Check the Shutter Key LED status: On HP keyboards with a dedicated webcam shutter key, check the indicator light:
    • Light ON: The webcam is physically turned OFF.
    • Light OFF: The webcam is ON.
    • Note: You may need to press Fn + Action Key simultaneously to toggle the state.
  • Side Privacy Switch: If your notebook features a physical toggle switch on the left or right side (or beside the camera), slide it away from the camera icon to restore power to the webcam.
  • Physical Lens Cover: If your camera has a physical sliding cover, slide it to the right to uncover the lens.

Perform a Power Reset (Hard Reset)

If the hardware switch is on but Device Manager still fails to detect the camera, perform a Power Reset:

  1. Turn off the computer completely.
  2. Disconnect all external peripherals, power cables, and power adapters.
  3. Perform an HP hard/power reset to clear temporary memory states without erasing personal data.
  4. Reconnect power, turn on the system, and check Device ManagerCheck for Hidden Devices in Device Manager

To reveal any ghost devices that might not be showing up normally:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Click on View > Show Hidden Devices.
  • Expand sections like Imaging devices, Cameras, or Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Look for anything like "Unknown Device," "USB2.0 HD UVC Webcam," or a grayed-out webcam.
    • If you see a grayed-out entry, let me know the exact name—it might be fixable via a manual driver install.

Last Resort: HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics

To rule out hardware failure:

  • Turn off your laptop.
  • Turn it back on and immediately press Esc, then F2 for HP Diagnostics.
  • Go to Component Tests > Camera or Video (if available) and run a test.

Hi @feyazi

Thank you for responding,

When the webcam shutter key is activated on HP notebooks, it physically/electronically disables the webcam, which causes it to completely vanish from Windows Device Manager.

When the white physical shutter is covering the lens (or the shutter key LED light is ON), the webcam is set to OFF.

Ensure the Webcam Shutter is Fully Disengaged

  • Press the webcam shutter key on your keyboard (or press Fn + webcam shutter key).
  • Ensure the white shutter retracts so the camera lens is clearly visible and the LED indicator light turns OFF.
  • (Note: Some HP Envy models also feature a physical privacy switch slider on the side or next to the camera—if present, make sure it is toggled away from the camera icon to enable the webcam.)

Scan for Hardware Changes in Device Manager

Once the shutter is opened:

  • Open Device Manager in Windows.
  • Click Action on the menu bar, then select Scan for hardware changes.
  • Check if Cameras or Imaging devices reappears in the list.

IF the camera is not appearing in Device Manager, I recommend checking the following:

  • Please restart the laptop and open Device Manager.
  • Click View > Show hidden devices, then check under Cameras, Imaging devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  • Click Action > Scan for hardware changes and check whether the webcam appears.
  • Please also confirm whether the camera works in the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics webcam test, if that test is available on your model.

Next Steps if the Camera is Still Missing in Device Manager

If toggling the key does not bring the webcam back:

  • Perform a Power Reset: Perform a power reset (hard reset) to clear system memory without losing personal data, which can restore unresponsive hardware.
  • Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics: Open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and run the Webcam Connection Test to see if the computer detects the camera at a hardware level.
  • Use Microsoft System Restore: If the webcam worked recently, run Microsoft System Restore to roll Windows back to a point when the camera was functioning.
  • Check for Internal Hardware Disconnection: If Device Manager still cannot detect the camera after these steps, the internal webcam cable may have physically disconnected or the camera hardware may require service.

HP PCs - Troubleshoot the webcam (Windows)

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Have a good day
