Hi @chuck666art,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP DeskJet 2710e All-in-One Printer is showing the cartridge symbol as empty even after inserting a new cartridge. Here are the steps you can follow to resolve it:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Make sure you're using genuine HP 305 or HP 305XL cartridges, which are compatible with the DeskJet 2710e.
  • Avoid using refilled or third-party cartridges during setup or troubleshooting.

2. Remove and Reinsert Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove both cartridges.
  • Gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click into place.

3. Reset the Printer

  • With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in directly to a wall outlet and turn it on.

4. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Open the HP Smart App on your PC.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Printer Updates.
  • Install any available updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
