I got a compaq presario cq61 from ebay. I guy told me that it will post but then it just blinks the cap lock and number lock. He told me he thinks it maybe i bios probelm. Is there any way to reinstall the bios so it will work right. Like some kind of key combo you would hit to go into a bios update mold. He thinks someone tried to update the bios and it shutdown before it finsh updating. Well thanks for the help.

Specified AC adapter:
65-W AC adapter 463958-001
Its actually an 18.5v 3.5a adapter like this one:
If a 19v had exactly the correct power pin it would work but just not sure what adapter you have there. I know there are some HP small desktops that use what looks like a laptop adapter just not sure they are the same thing. Adapters from another laptop maker are not going to work I know that. All laptops are picky in that they want to have the right AC adapter used on them.

You got taken to the cleaners. Report this crook to eBay and get your money back. You should not have to be messing with trying to reinstall BIOS if the seller said the laptop will POST. POST means getting to where an OS will load not just electrically power on.

Well i got it in the mail today. Plug it in and turn it on and nothing happens. The cpu fan comes on and no beep sound just blinking cap lock and number lock. Nothing on the screen. I took it apart and check everything and the motherboard looks good. The cpu doesn't look burn or even overheated at all. I even switch cpu with other one i had i know works and i get the same thing. So i think its going to come down too getting other motherboard.

I got a question here. If i don't have the right power supply for it will that make it not come on. I have one for a hp but it's 135 watts and it was for a desktop computer that took a power supply like a laptop. Because when i plug it in the battery like does nothing and when i hit the power button the button will light up then the cap and number lock blink. When i plug in either of my dell powers supply and hit power button the battery light flashes. I just wondering if it's a power supply problem. I know hp and compaq are picky on there power supplys.

Good grief yes you cannot just play Russian roulette with power supplies you need to get one compatible to the laptop.
You should be able to get a knock off that at least has the correct plug and power specs (volts, amps) for like $10.
Need full model number to suggest the right one for you.
