Installing the soDIMM modules should have nothing to do with the battery no longer being connected, unless you inadvertently damaged something while installing the memory.
A two year old battery could just be at the end of its service life.
Can you still boot to Windows with the power adapter connected?
If the answer is yes, it is time to replace the battery with a new one.
