hello i have the hp laptop pc 15-dw400 laptop with out a graphics card and in the model specs it says there a optional graphics card (NVIDIA® GeForce® MX550 2 GB GDDR6 Graphics Card), i am wondering if its possible to put the graphics card in now or if that is something that cant be done without breaking my laptop

Unfortunately, no.
The discrete graphics for your laptop model series are integrated into the system boards and not a pluggable module or card.
If you had selected a discrete graphics pre-purchase, your laptop would have had a different system board.
It would have been one of the system boards in the list below.
For use in models with discrete graphics equipped with the following processors:
Intel Core i7-8565U processor and 4 GB of GeForce MX250 discrete graphics memory L51994-xx1
Intel Core i7-8565U processor and 2 GB of GeForce MX130 discrete graphics memory L51993-xx1
Intel Core i5-8265U processor and 2 GB of GeForce MX130 discrete graphics memory L51992-xx1
Intel Core i5-8265U processor and 2 GB of GeForce GTX1050 discrete graphics memory L51991-xx1
Intel Core i3-7020U processor and 2 GB of GeForce MX110 discrete graphics memory L51990-x
