My device fails to start and displays the errors shown in the attached photos. I have performed both memory and storage tests.

  • Memory Test: Passed

  • Storage Test:
    There were two sections:
    1. Hard Drive / SSD Test:

    • SMART Check: PASSED

    • Long DST: WARNING

    • Component Test: WARNING

    • Current BIOS Version: 2.3.5.0

          2. Storage Tests (eMMC, Flash):

    • No storage installed

When I try to exit, the screen remains black and displays the message:
“Start PXE over IPv4” and then “Start PXE over IPv6”.

I also ran the Processor Test and System Board Test; both PASSED.

What should I do? The issue is urgent.

Thank you for your help.

Hi @abcd123489384,

It seems your device is having boot issues related to your storage drive, which is indicated by the warnings during the Long DST (Drive Self-Test) in the storage test. The "Start PXE over IPv4" and "Start PXE over I..." messages suggest that the computer is trying to boot from a network due to a boot failure with the installed storage devices.

Steps to Resolve the Issue:

  1. Review BIOS Settings:
    • Access the BIOS/UEFI setup during the initial startup by pressing the appropriate key (usually F10, F2, DEL, or ESC depending on your system) immediately after powering on.
    • Navigate to the boot order settings and ensure that the primary storage device (Hard Drive/SSD) is selected as the first boot option.
    • Make sure the network boot (PXE Boot) is disabled or set lower in priority than your storage device.

  2. Check and Reseat Storage Device:
    • If you're comfortable, open your device and check the connections to your Hard Drive or SSD. Ensure all connections are secure.
    • Reseat the storage drive to ensure it's properly connected.
  3. Update BIOS:
    • Visit the HP support website to check if a newer BIOS version is available. If so, download and install it according to the manufacturer's instructions. Ensure this process is done carefully to prevent any issues during the update.

  4. Backup Important Data:
    • If the device is able to boot from any alternate source or you can access the storage drive via another system, back up any important data as a precaution.

  5. Consider Storage Replacement:
    • Given the warnings in the Long DST, the storage drive might be failing. Consider replacing the drive if the issue persists after verifying connections and settings.
