I can't seem to adjust the fan curve on my laptop. It is a 2020 so it shouldn't be struggling with heat as much as it is. It has no overclock. it runs at over 80c

Updating the BIOS is recommended as standard maintenance of the computer. It can also help resolve the following issues:

  • An available BIOS update resolves a specific issue or improves computer performance.
  • The current BIOS does not support a hardware component or a Windows upgrade.
  • HP Support recommends installing a specific BIOS update.

Hi, @abyssdiver

If you have not been keeping your notebook's BIOS up to date, I agree with ub6424's recommendation to update the BIOS.

I have a notebook in the same model series as yours (15-ee0047nr) and there was a BIOS update that made adjustments to the fan curve.

I have copied and pasted the release notes from all of the BIOS updates below...

Version: F.19 Rev.A

Fixed in this release:  - Provides improved system stability.
- Improves UEFI code security. NOTE: HP strongly recommends transitioning promptly to this updated BIOS version which supersedes all previous releases.

Version: F.18 Rev.A

Fixed in this release: - Provides improved security.

Version: F.15 Rev.A

Fixed in this release: - Provides improved security.

Version: F.14 Rev.A

Fixed in this release: - Improves performance of modern standby.

Version: F.13 Rev.A

Fixed in this release: - Improves CPU power consumption.

Version: F.12 Rev.A

Fixed in this release: - Improves fan thermal optimization.

Version: F.11 Rev.A

Fixed in this release: - Provides improved security.

Version: F.07 Rev.A

Fixed in this release: - Fixes an issue where the power key does not function properly when the system is in an upright position.

Version: F.06 Rev.A

Fixed in this release: - Fixes an infrequent issue which causes the Wireless LAN to stop functioning.

Most problems are solved by BIOS updates, HP explicitly recommends updating the BIOS. Security, stability and fixing hardware/software issues are always the goal of the update.
Thank you @Paul_Tikkanen  for the contribution

I updated the bios but it still goes to 80C before turning on the fan. I'm not even playing games on it, the problem is the fact that the fan never turns on until over 80c. I do appreciate the amount of information that you posted @Paul_Tikkanen.
