Hi:

If you can get into the BIOS, on the system information screen the serial number, and product number of the PC should be displayed.

If the PC doesn't turn on at all, and you can't read the serial number on the sticker, I don't know of any way you will be able to obtain that info.

Maybe you can see if you can get the registration info from HP in the UK by calling this number...Explain the problem you are having--PC doesn't work, and you can't read the serial number from the sticker.

Does it have a removable battery?

What is the serial-number & model-number on that battery?

Search on eBay for those numbers, and you might find a listing that states "this battery is compatible with HP ABC-123, HP DEF-456, HP-789" computers.  Then, do a search on http://images.google.com for 'HP ABC-123', to get a picture of that model, and compare to the physical "look" of your computer.

Or, http://PartSurfer.hp.com might help you "reverse" your battery back to the model-number.
