HP Pavilion - 15-cs0053cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi! I just purchased a new HP Pavilion - 15-cs0053cl (product#  3TS79UA).  I'd like to add an extra SSD to it to its internal M.2 PCIe slot.

This is in the maintenance guide: M.2, PCIe, NVMe, solid-state drive 512 GB, TLC or 512 GB or 256 GB

Do you know if this would work? Patriot SCORCH M.2 2280 512GB PCI-Express 3.0 x2 with NVMe 1.2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) PS512GPM280SSDR https://www.newegg.com/patriot-scorch-512gb/p/N82E16820225110 or would you recommend some other type of 512G M.2, PCIe, NVMe?

I just want to select one that is compatible with this laptop and the M.2 slot.

I really appreciate your help!

Here is the Manual:

Start on p. 34 to remove the back cover and inside see this:

There is a reason the Patriot Scorch is discounted so much on newegg.com. It's older generation hardware. It is an x2 NVME which means it uses 2 PCie lanes and current NVME M.2s are x4. The Patriot would likely work and would perform OK but an x4 NVME M.2 will be about twice as fast. Whenver asked, I recommend what I have in my own laptop: a Samsung 970 Evo or the Evo Plus which is slightly newer and more available, is also a very good NVME M.2 SSD.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

I really appreciate your reply! Thank You for these details.

Does it have to be an expensive Samsung drive? Would you recommend any other brand for x4 NVME M.2?

Thanks again!

You get what you pay for. I also have had pretty good luck with Adata, with WD Black, with Toshiba; you just have to shop for price.

I really appreciate your help again. I ordered your recommended Samsung 4x speed drive. I did not find any other manufacturers' models with the same speed. This Silicon Power drive comes with the same speed for half price, but most reviews complain about heat and the high failure rate, so I did not risk it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L6DKM8V/ref=psdc_1292116011_t1_B0795X5HJL#customerReviews
