Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have ordered a Samsung 970 EVO 1 TG M.2 PCIe NVME SSD to replace my original M.2 128 GB SATA PCIe SSD

I can't find a USB to PCIe (type "M") adapter. How do I go about formating the new SSD and or cloning it?

I have created a USB recovery drive and created an image of the existing drive on an external USB drive.

When I do format do I use GPT or MBR?

Please tell us a bit more about the methods you used to make the recovery drive and the image on the external USB drive. Generally the Windows installer or cloning program will take care of preparing the new disk to take the OS and you do not need to do any other preparation in advance but to be sure that'as true in this case walk us through exactly what you plan to do.

I intend on replacing the existing 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD PCIe NVMe TLC  2280 B +M key which is the primary drive, with a Samsung 1 TB 970 EVO M.2 PCIe SSD.

The new drive will not be formated, To that end I have prepared a USB flash drive using the windows tools in control to create a "Recovery" USB and also I created a System image backup , again using the windows tool in control panel "File History" on a seperate USB external HDD.

I don't know of a USB to PCIe adaptor cable/connector where I could clone my existing Boot drive to the new one.

I guess my question is if I install the new unformated SSD then Boot to the USB recovery drive will the recovery drive recognize the unformated drive and then format it and then will I be able to restore the backup image

Also do I use GPT or MBR?
