Hi:

In that event, you will have to replace the hard drive, and reinstall the operating system.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

The HDD R & R procedure can be found in chapter 4.

thank you Paul. do you think this is something a not too techy person can do? and do you have any idea what the cost might be?

You're very welcome.

Take a look a the service manual and see if you think you can do the job yourself.

Easiness or difficulty are relative terms.  What you might think is easy, I might think is hard, and visa versa.

To me, it looks pretty easy to replace the hard drive when I look at the instructions.

What you will have to determine is if your notebook has a traditional 2.5" mechanical hard drive, or a solid state drive.

If your notebook has a 2.5" mechanical hard drive, I would replace it with a better performing, normally more reliable solid state drive.

You can get a 240 GB 2.5" SSD for as low as $35 USD.  I have two of these in my HP notebooks, for example.

IMO the biggest issue is reinstalling W7 if you don't have a W7 recovery disk, or W7 installation media that matches the product key on your PC's case.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

I don't like working on notebook PC's, so when I say that replacing the hard drive in your model looks pretty easy to me, then it should be pretty easy for you too.
