Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have an HP Compaq 6005 Pro MT, and I recently purchased an Athlon X4 640 to upgrade my CPU. After installing the new CPU, I am experiencing a black screen when I turn on the PC. Here are the details of my situation:

Current Setup:

  • Original CPU: Athlon II X4 B22 (65W)
  • New CPU: Athlon X4 640 (95W)
  • PSU: (320w)
  • BIOS Version: (01.17)

Hi:

Do you have the latest BIOS update installed which is 1.17?

This user benchmarking website has reports from a couple of users that installed similar processors, such has the X4 640 and X4 840:

Does your PC have a graphics card installed?

This spec indicates onboard graphics is supported on certain motherboards.

Whether or not the 6005 Pro's motherboard supports that processor with its onboard HD4200 graphics, that I do not know.

If you have a graphics card installed and have the latest BIOS update installed, then unfortunately I don't know what the problem could be.
