Hi! @CaptCavemanSr,

I have checked the specifications of the laptop, the laptop was shipped with Windows 8 64bit.

So you need to install the operating system shipped with the PC.

You can install the operating system using the recovery discs. If you don't have a set of recovery discs, please contact HP support and order a set of recovery discs.

Also, please follow the steps recommended below to replace the hard drive on the PC.

Before you begin: Remove the battery, and service door.

Remove the two 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
Slide the hard disk drive back for better access to the connector.
Pull up on the Mylar tab on the hard disk drive connector to disconnect the hard disk drive connector from the system board.
Pull up on the Mylar tab on the hard disk drive to lift and remove the hard disk drive out of the base enclosure.
Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.
Hard disk drive replacement
Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.
Lower the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay.
Slide the hard disk drive back for better access to the connector.
Connect the hard disk drive connector to the system board.
Slide the hard disk drive forward until the screw holes line up.
Replace the two 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws to secure the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.
