Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My wife has hp 14s-fq0100ur. This laptop has m2 slot. In stock it has 128gb sata 3 ssd. In reviews people say that I can use nvme ssd in this laptop.  And I'd like to use NVME instead of SATA disk. But I can't find any information about it from official hp resources. Could you help please.

Hi:

Chapter 1 of the service manual is ambiguous.  It indicates that both NVMe and SATA SSD's are supported.

Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)

No one that has the model like yours with the Atlon processor and with a 64 GB eMMC drive has gotten a NVMe SSD to work.

So, the question is...

Is it the notebooks with the AMD Athlon silver processors that don't support NVMe, or is it the notebooks with the 64 GB eMMC drives that don't support NVMe?

Unfortunately, no one knows the answer.

If your notebook had a Ryzen processor and a M.2 SATA SSD, I would say with 100% certainty that a NVMe SSD would be supported.

Believe this model has the 128 gig M.2 not the 64 gig eMMC:

This youtube video suggests an NVME will work in replacement of SATA and I also think the model he is working on in the video is also an AMD Athlon

......The man did say it on the first line of his post.

Thank you for your answers. I was about to buy nvme and test it. But I had an idea... Maybe sata ssd is a better choice? Yes, it slower, but at the same time it not that warm. Is it worth chasing nvme speeds? 🙂

You're very welcome.

I think you'll be fine with a NVMe SSD since the video showed one installed in a similar model to yours that came with a SATA SSD and the same Athlon silver processor.

Can you get a Hynix Gold P31 NVMe SSD in the Russian Federation?

Those have been known to run relatively cool.

Another choice would be the Samsung 980 (not 980 pro), with improved cooling over the Samsung 970.

Another popular and inexpensive model is the Western Digital Blue SN570.

But if you don't care to have the up to 5x faster performing NVMe SSD, you know for sure that a SATA SSD will work just fine.

Now I have Hp ex900 nvme ssd in my wife's laptop and it works.

So you can use either M+B key ssd or M key nvme.

Yes the key setup of the SSD is not limiting. You can insert either M key or B + M.
