Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

apologies if this is the wrong section, newbie!

ive just purchased the above laptop with 250gb ssd installed, having removed windows 10 i've now installed 7 and have installed a few bits of software, however ive noticed i dont have any com ports listed in device manger, ive looked on te hp support page for windows 7 64 bit, but ive installed all i think are relevant, can anyone point me in the right direction please?

i also have a device listed with a yellow exclamation mark, its labelled ACPI\MSFT0101, ive found some reference to installing a server service pack (from memory) but cant remember exactly where it was found, but i dont think it was relevant to the com ports, but ive mentioned it just incase as its the only device i have an issue with

Hi, @dumdumspl :

I can't imagine why you woudn't have the com ports working.

Did you install the AMD chipset drivers?

If not, I suggest you do...install and restart the PC.

You want the first driver listed on the webpage.

i have an option for tpm under security thats enabled, i resume its this i need to disable?? not overly pc savvy but i muddle by normally, thanks so far!

Yes if you just disable TPM in the BIOS the yellow exclamation point will go away.

right thats the tpm switched off and that yellow mark gone, but the intel driver software update above wont install, ive installed the windows kb update that it says is needed, but when i click the setup, i then accept it and it then trys to strt but kicks me back out as 'the computer doesnt meet minimum requirements for installing the software'

any ideas??

You can't have it both ways....turn it off and install a driver for it...one or the other.

Hi, @dumdumspl :

I have zipped up and attached the Microsoft hotfix you need to install the TPM 2.0 (ACPI\MSFT0101) device below.

Download, unzip and run the file.

You will have to re-enable the device in the BIOS for the driver to install.

Also, you have a notebook with AMD hardware, so no Intel drivers are going to work on it.

right before the crucifiction, i have turned off the bios setting for one issue but presumed the drivers would be for the missing com port issue, not all for the bit i just switched off

to the last poster with the finnish name, i did wonder with it being an amd processor and intel driver??

anyone help with the missing com ports issue as this is my unresolved issue now and my software needs to use specific com ports to function (which currently arent in device manager)

So you have zero com ports?

Check for hidden devices.

a.        Go to Start, type “hdwwiz.cpl” (without quotes) and press Enter. This opens Device Manager.

b.       Click on View menu and select Show hidden devices. See if this helps in getting the ports to list.

this doesnt show any ports in the device manager list, im presuming im missing a driver for them or something??
