Thermal Shutdown Occured
Notebook shut down while gaming. I pulled the battery and then restarted. Got error that BIOS has detected that my notebook has shut down to avoid overheating. System temperature (90D). I have read in a few other posts that it was a BIOS thing but couldn't find my computer.

@hutch911j

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Riddle_Decipher is at your service.

As I Understand there's an error-"90D thermal Shutdown" while playing a game & the PC shuts down due to the same,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you know the HP 15 isn't designed for gaming but for everyday computing?
(Keeping in mind the basic needs of an average user surfing the internet or using it for normal tasks as such).

That said, I'm afraid your HP 15 is not designed for gaming, its purpose is everyday computing and hence I would request you not to overload the computer with HD games such as the ones you've mentioned as this computer cannot handle it, to know about HP Laptops designed for gaming: Click here

That said, to avoid the thermal shutdown,

You may try the below steps:

Open Power Options from the start menu search,

Go to Change plan settings under Balanced recommended or your preference (it doesn't matter),

Then, Click on Advanced power settings,

Now Scroll down and look for Processor power management,

Click on the Plus (+) sign next to it and then the Plus sign next to Maximum Processor state.

Then Change both "On battery" & "Plugged in" from 100% to 40% instead.

Click on Apply and OK.

Now restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

Let me know how that pans out

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask any other queries as  well,

Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Thank you for the response. I have been playing games on this computer for nearly 2 years. The gaming computer that was offered at the local PX where I bought it had all of the same specs except for twice the ram, which made is almost double the price of the computer I bought. I bought 2 at the time, one for me, and one for my wife. Though my wife doesnt play as much as I do, there have been no problems with hers. The graphics and processor of this computer has performed well beyond the minimal specs of the game requirements. I am not understanding why after 2 years of daily farming, grinding, and raiding that I am now having this problem, only to consider that the fan is failing, or the BIOS update a few month back might have screwed with the settings like in many of the other forums for other laptops. I have adjusted the setting that were recommended and it still only comes on for a few minutes before it dies again, resulting is the same error when restarted. I am going to replace the fan and if that doesn't fix the problem, I will replace it completely. Probably with a brand that doesn't recommend that I lower the performance of my processor to restore my computer to a working condition a few months after the warranty runs out. I have been a loyal HP customer for many years and have never had any kind of problem like this before. Thank you for your time and response to my question.
