HP ENVY 13-ay0000 x360 Convertible Laptop PC (8JN84AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Strange, i have a medical equippement from GE (general electric) that uses a USB interface and that is working on every pc ( HP pc too) or different notebooks but NOT with hp notebook of envy series ( i have tree 13" of various years from 2017 to 2020 with windows 10 pro )

I have tried many ways, installing and reintaslling ecc ecc but the result is always the same "device unkown" and that's all.

Obviously the device is well working and the USB input too BUT not with this kind of device (made in 2019)!!!

Thank to all of you that will answer.

Lorenzo

Hi @LorenzoPier,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing compatibility issues with your HP Envy 13 x360 laptops when trying to connect a medical equipment device from GE via USB. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Check USB Ports: Ensure that the USB ports on your HP Envy 13 x360 laptops are functioning correctly. Try connecting other USB devices to confirm whether the ports are working as expected.
  • Update Drivers: Make sure that the drivers for the USB ports on your HP laptops are up to date. You can do this by visiting the HP support website, entering your laptop model, and downloading the latest USB drivers.
  • Check Device Manager: Open Device Manager on your HP laptops and see if the medical equipment device appears under the USB section when connected. If it's listed as "Unknown Device," try right-clicking on it and selecting "Update Driver" to see if Windows can find a compatible driver online.
  • Compatibility Mode: Some devices may require running in compatibility mode to work properly with certain hardware configurations. Right-click on the driver executable for your medical equipment device, go to Properties, and navigate to the Compatibility tab. Try running the driver installer in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows.
  • BIOS Update: Check if there are any BIOS updates available for your HP Envy 13 x360 laptops. Sometimes, BIOS updates can improve compatibility with certain devices.
  • Contact GE Support: Reach out to General Electric's support team for assistance. They may have encountered similar issues with their devices on HP laptops and could provide specific guidance or updated drivers.
  • Hardware Compatibility: Ensure that the medical equipment device is compatible with the hardware and operating system of your HP Envy 13 x360 laptops. Check the device's specifications and any compatibility requirements provided by GE.
  • USB Power Management: Disable USB selective suspend in the Power Options settings of your laptops. Sometimes, power-saving features can interfere with USB device connectivity.
  • Test on Different Windows Versions: If possible, try connecting the medical equipment device to HP laptops running different versions of Windows (e.g., Windows 7, Windows 😎 to see if the issue persists across multiple operating systems.
  • External USB Hub: Consider using an external USB hub with additional power if the medical equipment device requires more power than the laptop's USB port can provide.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
