i have a HP Laptop 15dy2xxx 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 and i want to maximize my ram by upgrading from the existing 8 gb to 32gb and i need to know if i can and how

HP only has the service manual for the older model series with the Intel 8th gen core processors available.

 

HP Laptop PC 15-dy2000 (2D115AV) - Setup and User Guides | HP® Support

 

According to chapter 1 of that manual, the notebook has two memory slots and can support 2 x 8 GB of memory.

 

You can run this command to see if your notebook can support 2 x 16 GB of memory:

 

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

 

This will open the command prompt.

 

2. After the command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and press the enter key.

 

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

 

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

 

If the report indicates 33,xxx,xxx then you should be able to install 2 x 16 GB of memory.

 

Crucial indicates that this 16 GB memory chip is compatible with the 15-dy2xxx model series:

 

Crucial 16GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT16G4SFRA32A | Crucial.com

 

It costs less on Amazon.

 

Crucial RAM 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL22 (or 2933MHz or 2666MHz) Laptop Memory CT16G4SFRA32A at Amazon.com
