@vishu10,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

No, you generally cannot upgrade the motherboard or processor in an HP G4 laptop.

Why Upgrading Isn’t Feasible in Most HP G4 Laptops:

  1. Processor is Soldered (BGA CPU)
    Most HP G4 series laptops (like the HP 240/245/250 G4) use BGA-type processors, which are soldered directly to the motherboard. You can’t remove or replace them like a desktop CPU.

  2. Motherboard is Custom-Fitted
    HP laptops use custom-sized motherboards designed specifically for that chassis, with specific screw positions, ports, and cooling layouts. You can't just install a “better” motherboard unless it’s a direct replacement from the same model family.

  3. BIOS and Power Compatibility
    Even if a physically compatible board existed, the BIOS and power delivery system are tightly tuned to the original hardware. Installing a faster CPU or different board might result in failure to boot, overheating, or instability.

What Can Be Upgraded in an HP G4 Laptop?

  • RAM: If not already maxed out.

  • Storage: Upgrade to a larger HDD or SSD (SATA or M.2, if supported).

  • Battery: Replace with a high-quality new one for better life.

  • Thermal repaste + cleaning: Helps with any throttling issues.

Recommendation:

If you need significantly better performance (e.g., for gaming, design work, or heavy multitasking), you’ll get much better value by:

  • Selling or gifting the current HP G4.

  • Purchasing a new or refurbished laptop with modern specs (e.g., Intel 12th Gen or Ryzen 5000 series and up).

Kind Regards,
