  • its kinda custom made if you look at the base model for it  and the charger i got was 'INSIGNIA' its a universal laptop charger comes with surge protection and the length is 10ft  the watts is only 90 doesn't go above that at all  you can get the 90 watt of hp site its much cheaper than best buy so far i paid 74 dollars and couple cents to get this

Thanks for the info.

After working again with HP Tech Support and me passing on your experience, they still wanted me to send my laptop in for "repair".  They (HP Sales) refused to send me a 90W AC adapter to verify what I suspect is related to our customized builds (both of which have the 4K display, which I think requires more than what 65W adapter can provide).  I had to end up buying a 90W adapter (from the online HP store), which fixed the issue.

I'm in process of trying to get them to reimburse me for the 90W adapter that I purchased from the HP online store and to escalate this within the appropriate HP group to validate our findings for what is being shipped out for similar machines.

i understand when i talk to hp about bringing in my computer  they said i didn't need too because it was (" brand new") but i do have a feeling its the 4k screen tbh and oh one more thing did you run a diagnostic on the charger too because ive been running a lot and everything seems pretty great on my end  my computer doesn't over heat it stays really really cool so that's a plus and the battery is still in it prime meaning that it works great and it doesn't drain fast at all i can get up to 6 to 7 hours of battery life (if i don't have my brightness  at MAX )still my computer seems to enjoy the 90 watt other than 65watt i haven't smelled anything burning either i'll still keep you updated if anything changes for the next couple weeks too see if anything weird is happening  and then later on we'll make the 90watt charger as a solution for the computer like this with the 4k screen.

by the way, if you look at the laptop on the HP online store, a 90W travel AC Adapter is listed as an accessory, so it shouldn't be an issue using that vs the old 65W.

as far as the HP PC hardware diagnostics>component>power test,  it now shows "PASSED" in the results with the 90W adapter.  The 65W adapter always showed "FAILED" and "CANCELLED",  but with no failure ID.

you are completely right and i saw the travel adapter too thats why i assume to get a 90watt power adapter for the computer  but i guess if anyone out-there in the world decide to get this brand computer with the  4k screen they're going to have to get the 90 watt also

the solution is to get a 90 watt charger if you have 4k screen tbh
