Upon startup my 5-year-old laptop suddenly started giving message there could be internal battery problem, advises I go to HP support.
After 15 seconds it then boots fine. What should I do?

Hi @L-P-S
You should test the battery, when you turn on the laptop press the F2 key several times, in the diagnostic make test, but I think that since the battery is already 5 years old, it should be replaced.

The part number is as follows search the internet for the battery by part number. The service manual shows you how to open the laptop and replace the battery.

Resistencia, I truly appreciate your help! But now I wonder if I have a fuse to replace in addition to battery.
I've been getting the 601 on startup for several weeks, and today I finally ran the internal diagnostics even though it said my version is out of date (perhaps because I was upgraded to Windows 11). However, it provided the following report which I summarized because it wouldn't allow me to copy their text:

The fuse is in the battery, you have a damaged battery, you can verify this with the fault ID in the following link

Resistencia, please pardon my confusion (after all, I have 3 usernames on this board because I kept forgetting).
My HP Envy 17t laptop has a "primary" battery problem.
1. Will my laptop be ok if I just use it plugged in?
2. I ordered a new LK03052XL from LaptopBatteryExpress, then noticed another vendor selling the same battery on Amazon for $80 less. Should I cancel the first order?

the battery needs to be changed, you can use the laptop without the battery but you will always get an error message at startup and any changes you make in the BIOS will not work.

Resistencia, I appreciate your help. You instilled enough confidence in me to order the replacement battery (LK03XL from Amazon) and for my husband to remove the original and install the replacement without difficulty. It's been two days and all is well (and no more warnings upon startup!)
One question: the original battery had a thin metal plate on the top and perhaps some padding on the bottom. The replacement from Amazon was just the battery. Should he transfer the top and bottom from the original to the replacement?
