HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13-ay0045au
Microsoft Windows 11

I own HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13-ay0045au I am considering an upgrade to my SSD. The SSD that came with the laptop is SAMSUNG MZVLB512HBJQ-000H1 which is 500 gb m.2 Nvme Gen 3x4. Will my laptop support 1tb Gen 4x4 m.2 NVME ssd if not what would be the config that my laptop could support.

Hi:

Since your notebook's M.2 slot is only PCIe Gen 3.0, while a Gen 4 NVMe SSD will work fine, you would be wasting your money if you expected to get anywhere near the maximum advertised read/write speeds.

Unless you plan on transferring a Gen 4 SSD to a newer model notebook in the future that has a PCIe Gen 4 slot, stick with a Gen 3 SSD such as the Samsung 980 1 TB (not 980 Pro).

Below is the link to the service manual.   HP offered 1 TB NVMe SSD's in the model series, so I don't see any issues whatsoever with installing a 1 TB drive.  You'll just have to decide which one.
