Hi @TonJoe,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand that your touchpad stopped working after upgrading the RAM and SSD in your HP 15-FD2002NS laptop, and the I2C HID Device is showing a yellow warning icon in Device Manager.

This usually indicates that Windows is unable to communicate with the touchpad through the I2C interface. After a hardware upgrade, this can be caused by a temporary controller issue, a driver problem, or a loose touchpad ribbon cable.

Follow these steps:

1. Perform an Embedded Controller (EC) Reset:

This refreshes communication between the system hardware and Windows.

  • Turn off the laptop.

  • Disconnect the AC adapter and all external devices.

  • Press and hold the Power button for 15–20 seconds.

  • Reconnect the AC adapter and turn the laptop on.

2. Reinstall the I2C HID Device:

This allows Windows to detect the touchpad hardware again.

  • Press Win + X and open Device Manager.

  • Expand Human Interface Devices.

  • Right-click I2C HID Device (with the yellow warning icon) and select Uninstall device.

  • Do not select Delete the driver software.

  • Restart the laptop.

3. Install the Latest HP Drivers:

Windows Update may not install the correct drivers required for the touchpad controller.

  • Download and install the latest Intel Serial IO Driver and Touchpad Driver for your HP 15-FD2002NS from the Official HP® Support.

  • Restart the notebook after installation.

If the issue persists after completing these steps, check that the touchpad ribbon cable is securely connected, as it may have been disturbed during the RAM or SSD installation.

I hope this helps. Please let us know the results, and we'll be happy to assist you further.

Take care and have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
