I am using an HP 15s-du1014TU Core i3 10th generation laptop. Recently, I have been facing a few problems while using it.
- When I open my laptop, sometimes I can't type my password. The keyboard does not work sometimes or it gives different input. I got locked a few times and had to use an on-screen keyboard to type in my password.
- After I log in, sometimes it behaves weirdly, sometimes normal. When one key is pressed, it takes different inputs.
- Arrow keys behave wired sometimes, but work fine most of the time. Does not work in media player applications. Function keys also do not work in the media player, but work fine otherwise.
- Sometimes, the taskbar does not respond for a few minutes after starting. After a few minutes, it works. When I try to open a folder or my computer, it shows properties instead of opening a folder. I installed Windows 10 freshly after the problems started showing.
Pls suggest me solutions.

Since you've already reinstalled Windows 10, let's go through some diagnostic and troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue.
1. Check for Keyboard Driver Issues
The symptoms you're describing—random input, arrow keys not working properly, function keys misbehaving, and input mismatch—suggest there could be an issue with the keyboard driver or a software conflict.
Update/Reinstall Keyboard Driver:
- Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Keyboards section.
- Right-click on the Standard PS/2 Keyboard (or similar) and select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software. If an update is found, install it.
- If the driver is up to date but the issue persists, you can try uninstalling the driver:
- Right-click the keyboard device and choose Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the necessary keyboard drivers.
Check for Sticky Keys or Filter Keys:
Sometimes, the keyboard input might be abnormal due to accessibility features like Sticky Keys or Filter Keys being enabled.
- Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard.
- Make sure Sticky Keys and Filter Keys are turned off.
2. Test the Keyboard in BIOS/UEFI
To rule out any hardware issues with the keyboard, you can test the keyboard in the BIOS/UEFI settings (before Windows loads). This will tell you whether the problem is related to the keyboard itself or something in Windows.
- Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 during startup to enter the BIOS.
- Once in the BIOS, try typing on the keyboard in any text fields or menus.
- If the keyboard works normally in BIOS, then the issue is likely software-related (drivers or Windows configuration).
- If the keyboard behaves erratically in BIOS as well, it may be a hardware problem with the keyboard itself.
