see this is the file that was recently installed.see this is the file that was recently installed.hi i own an HP ENVY TS m7 notebook pc, my product id is 00331-10000-00001-AA279. Recently my keyboard arrow keys left and right ones have ceased to function completely, along with this the indicator light of my caps lock has stopped showing, in contrast to this though, the light on f12 button is still showing. i dont know what has happened and why this has occured, it was pretty sudden, i was watching youtube and suddenly my arow keys stopped working (i tried using them to skip a video) they dont work even with shortcuts. i troubleshooted my keyboard but no problem was detected, i also tried updating driver but it said it was on the latest version, i want to reinstall my driver but for that ill have to check the serial number present on my battery, but heres the catch; a few months ago i got my battery replaced since the previous one stopped working, so now i dont know if this battery's serial number matches my laptop and therefore to avoid any further problems, i refrained from doing so. i checked any new updates windows had recently installed and it was the "kb5041019" update, even though this update was done AFTER the problem occured, i still tried to uninstall it, but it doesnt have an option for uninstalling on my laptop..
i asked someone else and they told me to get my BIOS AND UEFI updated, is that right?
i am not in a position where i can get my laptop checked professionally so any simple fixes would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hi @ayesha24,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems you're facing a combination of keyboard issues with your HP ENVY TS m7 notebook PC, including non-functional arrow keys and a non-working Caps Lock indicator light. Let's break down the possible causes and solutions.

Possible Causes:

  1. Hardware Issue: The sudden failure of specific keys and the Caps Lock indicator could indicate a hardware problem with the keyboard itself or the keyboard's connection to the motherboard.
  2. Driver Issue: While you've already updated the drivers, reinstalling them could help if they became corrupted.
  3. BIOS/UEFI Issue: A BIOS or UEFI update might address any underlying firmware-related issues that could be affecting keyboard functionality.

Solutions:

Reinstall Keyboard Drivers:

  • Even though you've updated the driver, reinstalling it might help. Here's how to do it safely:
    1. Device Manager:
      • Right-click on the Start Menu and select Device Manager.
      • Expand the Keyboards section.
      • Right-click on your keyboard and select Uninstall Device.
      • Restart your computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.
    2. HP Support: If you're concerned about the serial number of your battery, you can manually download the driver from the HP Support website using your laptop's model number.

Check BIOS/UEFI Version:

  • An outdated BIOS/UEFI can sometimes cause compatibility issues. Here's how to check and update it:
    1. Check Current Version:
      • Restart your computer and press F10 to enter the BIOS setup.
      • Check the BIOS version listed in the BIOS menu.
    2. Update BIOS:
      • Go to the HP Support website and enter your laptop's model number.
      • Download the latest BIOS update available and follow the instructions to install it.
    3. HP UEFI Diagnostics: You can also use the HP UEFI Diagnostics tool to run a test on the keyboard to determine if it's a hardware fault.

Try an External Keyboard:

  • If possible, connect an external keyboard to your laptop. This will help determine if the problem is with the internal keyboard or a more systemic issue.

Reset Keyboard Settings:

  • You can try resetting your keyboard settings in Windows:
    1. Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language.
    2. Ensure your keyboard layout matches your region and language.
    3. Remove any additional keyboards you don't use.

Restore System to an Earlier Point:

  • If the problem began recently, consider performing a system restore to a point before the issue occurred:
    1. Type Create a restore point in the Windows search bar and select it.
    2. Click System Restore and follow the prompts to choose a restore point before the issue started.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • If you’re comfortable, carefully remove the keycaps (if possible) and check for debris or damage underneath.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

hello alden, thank you for the solutions offered, i am going to try them all, however one thing i also noticed is that along with the loss of caps lock indicator light. the light on the volume mute button of my keyboard has also stopped showing up, is there anything else i can do or are all the solutions mentioned above sufficient even for this newfound problem,
p.s the mute button is WORKING but the light beside it is just not showing up. same with the caps lock button.
Thank you and have a great day!
