Hi @shi234t,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If the keyboard on your HP 15.6-inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (Product ID: 2J4V9AV) is not working, here are a few steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Perform a Hard Reset
This clears temporary hardware glitches:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Disconnect all external devices (USB, power, etc.).
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter and turn it on.
2. Check for Keyboard in Device Manager
- Press Windows + X → select Device Manager
- Expand Keyboards
- Right-click your keyboard device (e.g., “Standard PS/2 Keyboard”) → Uninstall device
- Restart your laptop — Windows will reinstall the driver automatically
3. Use the On-Screen Keyboard
To confirm if it’s a hardware issue:
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard
- Turn on the On-Screen Keyboard
- If this works, the issue is likely with the physical keyboard
4. Update BIOS and Drivers
Outdated firmware can cause keyboard issues:
- Visit the official HP driver page for your model:
👉 HP Laptop 15s-eq2199AU (78D76PA) Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support - Download and install:
- BIOS update
- Keyboard or chipset drivers
- HP System Event Utility
5. Boot into BIOS to Test Keyboard
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly
- If the Startup Menu appears, the keyboard is working at the hardware level
- If not, the keyboard may be physically disconnected or faulty
6. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Turn off the laptop
- Press Esc, then F2 to enter diagnostics
- Run the Keyboard Test
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
