PC 17-f050nd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since I installed windows 10 the laptop won't shut down anymore. I tried a lot of things that I found on the internet, but nothing helped (for long). I updated nearly all drivers and the BIOS. I tried to reinstall an old version of the Intel MEI, now I have (again) 11.0.0.1156. Please can you help me?

Hi@Maarten9, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion 17-f050nd Notebook P laptop and the laptop does not shut down by pressing the Shutdown button at the StartMenu, the light is still on. Also, the laptop overheats. Not to worry, I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Press and hold the button “Windows” and the button “X”.
  • After you opened up the menu you will have to left-click on the “Command Prompt as Administrator” to open it.
  • In the command prompt window you will need to write the following line “bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes” without the quotes. Note: Be sure to type the command exactly how it is written above and include a space between the line “bcdedit /set disabledynamictick” and the “yes” word.
  • Press the “Enter” button on the keyboard.
  • Reboot the Windows 8.1 or the Windows 10 device and see if you still have this issue.

Secondly, you may download and install the BIOS update for your laptop via this link: https://hp.care/2Lr4Fbb

NOTE: Please have the charger connected to the laptop while updating the BIOS. Because the BIOS update must not get interrupted due to the battery draining out.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Sorry, this solution didn't work.

Did you find a fix?

I recently got the same problem after getting  KB4023057 Microsoft Update.

If you are getting the overheating problem after shutdown then an Ubuntu boot/shutdown might fix that see https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Fan-continues-to-run-after-shutdown-it-causes...

Your solution didn't work unfortunately.

The notebook still doesn't shut down after pushing the on/off button.

Do you know a better way maybe?

thank you beforehand, Maarten.
