maximum ram amount & type

Just looking to figure out what the max i can install for ram on this convertible as i keep finding conflicting results...

I have found this description in the service manual 

Memory

2 SODIMM slots DDR3L-1600MHz

Support for DDR3L-1600MHz

Support for dual channel

Supports up to 8096-MB maximum on-board system memory

what im wondering is what does the max mean ? is that per slot or total and what does on board memory define as ? i have see it stated as permanent non expandable memory or as removable and expandable memory...

Hi firebolt07,

The maximum on-board system memory should mean the total amount of memory the computer can have at a given moment.

On-board memory... probably just means RAM.:smileyhappy:

The RAM should be replaceable as it doesn't explicitly state if it is non-accessible/non-upgradeable and since there are RAM replacement instructions on page 61-62 of the guide.

Hi,

Now the max memory for your system is 8GB of DDR3L-1600Mhz. It has two slots and you could add 4GB in the empty slot. The service manual are generally quite confusing as onboard memory is memory which is soldered to motherboard and non repaceable or upgradeable. However this is not your case. Service manuals are usuall used for more than one series of computers and I guess that is why they can be confusing.

Now, having said that, it is possible and Crucial which guarantees its upgrades stated that you can upgrade to 16GB. So you could try that, they have moneyback guarantee if you buy from them that it will work.

Now upgrading RAM is not that simple in your PC as you need to remove the motherboard (and more) to get to the RAM slots. You can see the steps on page 61 of service manual.
