I have a HP Pavillion dv6-2173cl, that I really like and would like to continue using for secondary tasks. I would like to fully understand what the maximum upgrades would be compatible. I know the chipset/processor is sodered in but I'm thinking TB SSD, more RAM, maybe bios update etc, please elaborate in detail what I can do, thanks!

Here is a source for the compatible SSD and guaranteed compatible memory modules.

Installation details for the DV6-6000 series notebook components can be found on YouTube

BIOS updates are simply a matter of donloading them from the HP Suport portal if they are still available.

Ufortunately they are not available past Windows 7 OS.

dv6-2000 series is quite a bit older. HP has pulled the Service Manual but still available from 3rd party sources.

The processor is removeable. I believe you can install up to a dual core i7 first gen. The Manual I have linked is for the top of the line version with Quad Core i7 and I believe your motherboard will not accept a Quad Core. However, the Manual will show disassembly procedure for your model. Good luck.
