Hi @darrelddd

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query in this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the hard drive is getting detected as SSD on the computer.

Don’t worry, we will work together to resolve this issue and It’s a pleasure to assist you in this regard.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

When was the last time the computer was working fine?

Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?

Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to run Winsat so that Windows can check the drives again and detect it correctly.

Here is how it is done.

Open command prompt as administrator.

Type “winsat formal” (Without the quotes) and hit enter.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day 🙂

Hi @darrelddd,

As @The_Fossette is out of office for the day, I am taking over from here. You've done commendable troubleshooting and displayed remarkable persistence to try and get the issue resolved. Kudos to you for a job well done. It is greatly appreciated. 🙂 Please check this Microsoft link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3083627/internal-sata-drives-show-up-as-removeable-media out and perform the required troubleshooting steps carefully. Then check if the issue is resolved.

If it is not resolved try these steps.

Check Control Panel --> Device Manager --> Disks --> double click on the disk drives and make sure that under Policies tab drive 'write cache' is enabled and there is no 'optimize for quick removal' enabled. This is directly related with how windows considered or not a drive being removable.

Also update the bios and chipset drivers if available from this link: http://hp.com/drivers and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Please click "Accepted Solution" on the post that solves your issue to help others find the solution. To show appreciation for my help, please click the "Thumbs Up Icon" below!

Cheers 🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂
