Hi @adeegbemode,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact HP laptop model you’re using.
  • Whether the fingerprint reader stopped working after a Windows update or driver change.
  • If the fingerprint option is missing entirely from Sign-in options under Windows Settings, or if it’s visible but not responding.

In the meantime, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Check Windows Settings: Go to Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options and confirm that Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello) is listed and enabled.
  • Update Drivers: Open Device Manager → expand Biometric devices → right-click your fingerprint sensor → Update driver. You can also check HP Support Assistant for the latest drivers.
  • Enable Biometric Services: Press Win + R, type services.msc, and ensure Windows Biometric Service is running and set to automatic.
  • Remove and Re-add Fingerprints: If the option is available, try deleting existing fingerprints and re-registering them.
  • Windows Updates: Make sure your system is fully updated, as Microsoft often releases fixes for Windows Hello and biometric devices.

If the issue persists after these steps, we may need to look into reinstalling the fingerprint driver package or checking for firmware updates specific to your laptop model.

I hope this helps.
