I purchased this laptop from Best Buy and in the specifications it said it has a fingerprint reader. I see no place to put my finger. Model 14 - dq2013dx S/N [Personal Information Removed].

This particular model in the series does not include the fingerprint reader:

Fingerprint Reader | Fingerprint reader not available |
Fingerprint reader is an option in the series:

What else?
What about a different computer?
Where to look / check?
If the Device Manager detects the hardware as installed, the listing will be available in the BIOMETRICS section.
This check is fairly accurate.
That said, the check can fail if the physical hardware is actually inside the machine but has failed to the extent that the Device Manager cannot "see" the component.
Device Manager - Biometrics Information
- Device Manager > View “Devices by type” AND “Show hidden devices”
- Open category Biometric devices
- Look for and Right-Click on the fingerprint reader device > Properties
- Tab Details
- Beneath Property, “Device description”
- Beneath Value, look for the PID number
Example
Device_Manager_Biometrics_3
Check for the Parts / Information in the Service Guide
This does not tell you what is installed in YOUR model - it does tell you whether the feature you seek is an option available on the Series. For a model Series that supports the option, the guide will also tell you how to locate the fingerprint reader and provide the part number for the reader.
Open Product Home >> Enter the full model name
- When the website opens, select category Manuals
- Look for and open the Maintenance and Service guide for your computer (document name varies)
- Search for “Fingerprint” to find parts and replacement >> Read the chapter on Replacement Procedures
NOTES
- The exact name of the service document varies, though usually the word "service" or "maintenance" is included in the name.
- The "Service Guide" and "User Guide" are not the same documents.
- Part numbers and replacement procedure are listed in the component replacement section (wording varies)
Fingerprint Reader - Search in Part Surfer
This method should work in most cases.
That said, there are many differences in product lists, details, manner in which the available information is presented.
So - no guarantees.
The following provides a couple of ideas that might help decipher the content.
Open PartSurfer
Set your Country / Region
Use PartSurfer website with your machine's serial number to check what is included.
Reminder: Do not post your serial number on the Community.
If the detailed data is available in PartSurfer for your machine
Then
Search for the information using various keywords
For example:
The computer includes a fingerprint reader / sensor,
The following might be listed:
'FINGERPRINT RDR"
OR
No fingerprint reader hardware installed in the machine:
"SPS-FINGERPRINT DUMMY"
Dummy is the term for the small plate that covers the hole where the sensor might have been located on the keyboard.
OR
Search for the part number of the fingerprint reader you retrieved from the Service Guide.
For example,
Fingerprint Reader Part Number = M03434-001
Search Part Surfer for M034
Peruse the list for the exact part number
No listing = no matching part installed in the computer
