Hi @monster06,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

A malfunctioning USB port, especially on a gaming laptop like your Victus by HP 15.6" (15-fa1000), can be really disruptive. Since your left USB port doesn’t work properly with a mouse, let’s go through a few targeted steps to isolate and potentially fix the issue.

Step-by-Step Fix for USB Port Issues

1. Check Device Manager

Let’s see if Windows detects the port and if there are any driver issues.

  1. Press Win + X → select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Look for any entries with a yellow warning icon.
  4. Right-click and choose Uninstall device for the affected USB controller.
  5. Restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

2. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

HP offers a built-in tool to test USB ports:

  1. Press Esc repeatedly during startup → choose F2 for diagnostics.
  2. Select Component Tests > USB Port Test.
  3. Follow the instructions to test the left USB port.

3. Try Different Devices

  • Test the port with a USB flash drivekeyboard, or phone charger.
  • If only the mouse fails, it could be a power delivery issue or mouse-specific compatibility.

4. Check Power Management Settings

Windows may be turning off the port to save power.

  1. In Device Manager, right-click the USB Root Hub → Properties.
  2. Go to the Power Management tab.
  3. Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

5. BIOS Update

Sometimes USB issues are resolved with a BIOS update.

  • Visit the HP Support page for your model.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
