new laptop with touchpad issues out of the box. When trying to move the mouse using the touchpad it will work but then lag or randomly stop and make random selections and open random windows or click links when I am not even touching the buttons, simply trying to move the mouse. It's not just the mouse, it's the buttons too. When trying to click something I have to click 2, sometimes 3 times or more before the click is registered. I talked to my wife and she said her HP laptop (similar model) has the same issue. I've seem others here posting the same thing. This appears to be an HP issue. my palm is not on the touchpad. I've read the other articles here about updating drivers etc... but nothing works. can I get some HP support via share screen or something? or I might just return it.

Hi @dturskey,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
- Restart your laptop. A simple restart can fix temporary glitches.
- Adjust touchpad sensitivity. Press Windows + I to open Settings. Go to Devices > Touchpad and change the sensitivity to Medium or Low.
- Update or reinstall touchpad drivers. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager. Expand Mice and Other Pointing Devices. Right-click on your touchpad driver (Synaptics, ELAN, or HID-compliant touchpad). Select Update driver and search automatically for drivers. If the issue persists, right-click again and select Uninstall device, then restart your laptop.
- Disable Tap-to-Click and gestures if needed. Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad. Turn off "Tap-to-click" to prevent accidental clicks. Scroll down and disable extra gestures like three-finger swipe.
- Check for Windows and HP firmware updates. Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any available updates. Open HP Support Assistant and check for BIOS or driver updates.
- Reset BIOS as a last resort. Turn off the laptop. Turn it on and immediately press F10 multiple times to enter BIOS. Press F9 to restore defaults, then press F10 to save and exit.
