When I bought my laptop it had 4GB 1666Mhz ram. Now I want to upgrade it to 8GB of ram. Is using 8GB DDR4 2666Mhz of ram OK, considering that the frequencies are different. Or maybe I should install an 8GB DDR3 1666Mhz which has the same frequency as my initial 4GB ram?

Laptop uses DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM only. You cannot use any kind of DDR4. It is physically different and will not click into the memory slots. Your max memory is a pair of 8 gig DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM, and you should use standard OEM product like Crucial Samsung, Hynix. Gaming or performance memory will not speed anything up and worst case will keep the system from POSTing.
