There is an M.2 slot but it is useable for either a WWAN card or a 2242 SATA M.2 SSD. There is no way to adapt an NVME M.2 to work on a system that is not wired for an NVME M.2 slot. A chain is only as strong as the weakest link or in this case is only as fast as the slowest link so even if you could somehow attach an NVME M.2 to the system it would be forced to run through a SATA bus. Which means it would be slow. And it is not possible to attach it in any event. For one thing there is no 80mm slot available. So to answer directly this is in the realm of "not possible/can't be done". Sorry.

When I search for 'SSD M.2 SATA', I find 80mm long only modules with the correct connector. /-------\_/--\
When I search for '2242 SATA M.2 SSD', I get shorter units, but it has 3 splitted connectors: /--\_/-----\_/--\
What is the exact name of the modules fitting the HP Elitebook 840 G1
