So removed all RAM and then entered in the original RAM into the top memory slot.

When the system was turned on, it wouldn't load up (red light was on showing power going through but the CAPS LOCK button was just flashing).

Then tried with putting the original RAM into the second memory slot and then added the new RAM into the top memory slot. System powered up correctly but still only recognising the original RAM as per image.

Guessing this is then a hardware issue with the memory slots over the RAM being the problem???

I looked at your BIOS revisions and did not see any fix for memory problems.

Can you pass UEFI diagnostics?

Tap the ESC key after powering on. Tap it once a second after you see the LEDs on the keyboard flash. When you see the startup menu, press F2 to run diagnostics.

Do not update the BIOS if any problems show up.

I am guessing there is a problem with the second slot.

Does the original memory have an HP label?   If so, what is part number (or get it from that wmic command)

I assume your system is out of warrany??

Morning - happy Monday 😉

So ran several tests yesterday via the process you said below.

Here are the results, including an extensive test that took about 2 hours (apologies for the image quality, taken on my phone).

Let me know if you needed me to do any other tests/checks and I'll get them sorted after work.

The head shed did not like the images, probably because a serial number was exposed.

You can email them to me at josephy AT stateson DOT net

My guess is if you had bought a used memory stick identical to the original it would have worked.

It is also possible the slot is defective.

All I was going to do was to lookup the HP memory part and find a cheap one on ebay.  I assume you passed diagnostics.

A shop near you may have spare HP memory to test to see if the slot is defective.  That may be the best solution.

All the diagnostics passed.

Possibly all you need is an identical Hynix with part number HMA82GS6JJR8N-VK

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p4432023.m570.l1313&_nkw=hp+HMA82GS6JJR8N-VK&_saca...

There is always the possibility the slot is defective.

Your parts list can be found here

The exact HP part number for your Omen laptop is

932818-372SoDIMM, 16GB, DDR4-2666, Hyn J die, 21nm

This is the best I can do.  It seems to me that the pair of chips you bought should have worked
