Hi @raghaavk

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing what’s happening—I’m really sorry your HP Victus laptop is showing the “Primary (internal) battery (601)” warning just after the warranty period. You’ve already done a great job updating BIOS and firmware, and I completely understand how frustrating this is, especially when everything was working fine just yesterday.

Let’s walk through a clean recovery and verification sequence to help you understand and manage this situation.

What the “Primary (internal) battery (601)” Warning Means

This alert appears during startup when the system detects that the internal battery’s capacity or performance has dropped below expected thresholds. It doesn’t always mean the battery has failed—it may still function normally, but the system is flagging it for attention.

Step-by-Step: Verify and Manage Battery Health

1. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics Battery Test

  1. Press Esc repeatedly during startup to open the Startup Menu.
  2. Press F2 to launch HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  3. Select Component Tests > Power > Battery.
  4. Run the battery check and review the results:
    • OK means the battery is still usable.
    • Replace or Weak confirms degradation.

This test gives a clear picture of the battery’s current health.

2. Generate Windows Battery Report

  1. Press Windows + X > Windows Terminal (Admin).
  2. Type the following command and press Enter:
    powercfg /batteryreport
  3. Open the generated report at:
    C:\Users\[YourUsername]\battery-report.html
  4. Check:
    • Design Capacity vs Full Charge Capacity
    • Cycle Count
    • Recent usage patterns

This helps you understand how the battery has aged over time.

3. Use the Laptop on Battery Occasionally

If the battery is still functional:

  • Unplug and use the laptop on battery for short periods.
  • Avoid letting it drain below 20% regularly.
  • Keep the laptop in a cool, ventilated space.

This helps maintain battery health and may reduce false alerts.

4. Optional: Disable Battery Check at Boot (Temporary Workaround)

If the battery is still working and you want to bypass the warning:

  • Enter BIOS Setup (press F10 during startup).
  • Look for Startup or Boot Options.
  • Disable Battery Check at Boot (if available).
  • Save and exit.

This doesn’t fix the battery but prevents the warning from interrupting startup.
