HP ENVY Notebook 15-as005nf (Touch) (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hello! i want to upgrade to maximum capacity ram memory on my HP Envy as005nf 15. i searched on line for spare parts and several sites indicate my notebook has a maximum capacity of 16GB (2x8),2 slots. but i ran the HP support assistant and it says it can support a maximum of 32GB (2x16). 2 slots and BIOS is INSYDE F26 , 15/03/2017 .  Why such a disagreement? what to do? maybe an HP technicien could give the pdf ?

thanks.

Service Manual:

Manual

See p. 31. The official manual says 16 gb is the max but in general, 32 gigs will work. You can have the system tell you the max memory with a command line argument:

wmic memphysical get maxcapacity

It will likely read 32 gigs as the max and, if so, 32 gigs will work. Use DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM standard OEM like Hynix, Samsung. It will bridge (downclock) to 2133 speed.

hello, thank you so much for your reply.

the cmd MaxCapacity says:33554432 , i suppose 32GB will be fine. i am not an expert!

please tell me is there particular way to fix them, what means it will bridge downclock?

thank you for the pdf, there is a slight difference in the notebook model. does it matter?

since 16GB and 32GB are twice the price,is there any risk for 32GB to not work?

thank you.

There is no risk 32 gigs will not work based on the system's response to the inquiry from the command line. Downclock means the fastest speed the memory will ever run is 2133. DDR4-2133 is very hard to find so use DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM; it's usually a little cheaper.

This is an example:

You do not want to get "performance" or "gaming" memory. It will not make the computer any faster and might block the system from booting. Use standard OEM speed memory.

The Hynix is the "better" brand but the one you ask about it used. Given the choice I would get the new A-Tech.
